A Familiar Sight (Dr. Gretchen White, 1)
Dr. Gretchen White is a psychologist, criminologist, and admitted sociopath. When she was eight, she was suspected of killing her aunt, although she was never charged. Gretchen found that becoming a consultant for the Boston police department gives her an outlet for her more psychopathic urges. When young psychopath, Viola Kent, is accused of killing her mother, Gretchen finds herself drawn to A Familiar Sight. After interviewing Viola, Gretchen knows she’s certainly capable of murder, but in this case, she might be innocent and the perfect scapegoat. Gretchen’s desire for answers won’t let her accept this case at face value and might teach her something about herself and what she’s capable of.
I think this was the book I’ve been waiting for. A sociopath investigating psychopaths? I absolutely loved it and am so excited this is a series. Gretchen can be hard to like, but she also has a certain charm about her. I enjoyed watching her relationship with Marconi unfold. For once, I actually couldn’t see where the story was going. There were so many twists and turns, however, they were perfectly executed and wrapped up nicely. I cannot wait to read more in this series.
