A Good Day for Ducks
What kind of weather do ducks like? Rainy days. But little children like rainy days too, and the sister and brother in this story really know how to have a good time in the rain. Dressed in rain boots and raincoats, they explore the great rainy outdoors. The children jump in puddles, they get muddy, and they splish splash down the lane. At the pond, they watch a family of quacking ducks swimming in a row. At their next stop, they find worms squiggling in the mud. When lightning and thunder begin, Mom says it’s time to go home. They change into warm, comfy clothing and play inside while Mom fixes cocoa. Painting pictures of their day in the rain brings their day to a close.
Author Jane Whittingham has written a spare text filled with onomatopoeia and lyrical writing that will charm little ones and those who read to them. The gorgeous watercolor illustrations by Noel Tuazon seem to be washed by the stormy day, and they are the perfect complement to this enchanting story. This is a sweet story children will ask for over and over.
