Mimi’s bistro has been booked solid thanks to the Sweet Treats Festival run by Chef Camille’s sister, Renee. When Mimi receives a frantic phone call, she goes to Camille’s house and finds Renee dead on the floor. When the sheriff uncovers Renee’s infatuation with her sister’s boyfriend, Camille is accused of killing her sister out of jealousy. To prove her friend’s innocence, Mimi dives into a pool of suspects and uncovers a shocking affair that may be cause for murder. Her number one suspect is Renee’s distraught husband who came to town determined to win back his wife and is suspiciously without a motive. Many suspects have a motive for murder, but only one of them seems to be targeting Mimi.

Full of motive and betrayal, the mystery is delightful and keeps you guessing until the end as everything unfolds around Mimi and leads to an unexpected reveal. While she investigates the murder, she also navigates her daily life, which feels ordinary, made up of work and her various relationships. Mimi has a way of drawing people into conversations and charming them into confessions, which is the perfect personality for an amateur sleuth. This also makes her fun and charming as she deals with gossiping townsfolk and her boyfriend’s ex-wife, who seems to be setting her up with an old friend. Romance plays a role in the background as Mimi and her friends Jo and Camille experience a significant change in their budding relationships, which adds a touch of sweetness to the plot. A Souffle of Suspicion is a sweet treat with dazzling characters, a sleuth full of charm, and blossoming romance.

A Souffle of Suspicion is the second book in the French Bistro Mystery series.
