For fans of Lisa Scottoline, you know this is one author who does not disappoint. After Anna is a heartbreaking story about a family that starts to fall apart with the arrival of Anna, the daughter that Maggie hasn’t seen since infancy. Maggie is happily married to Dr. Noah Alderman and has a wonderful stepson named Caleb. One day, she receives a call from the daughter who was taken away from her many years ago. Seventeen-year-old Anna is manipulative towards her new family although Maggie just wants her to be happy and dismisses her shortfalls. We learn at the beginning of the story that Noah is on trial for the death of Anna. The chapters of the book alternate between the trial and from Maggie’s current point-of-view. Does she believe Noah killed Anna or is there some skepticism? Scottoline leaves the reader guessing what really happened until the end of the book. This book has many twists and turns in it and the characters are brilliant and full of life. The values of family and togetherness are strewn throughout the book and the characters persevere through all the hardships that they go through in the duration of the story. I especially loved the journey that Noah went through to get his family back. This book is a fantastic read for any thriller and suspense fan.
