All the Way Down
Dale Burnett is a dirty cop who has been in bed with the town’s biggest drug kingpin, Tat, for quite a while. When Burnett is called into the Chief of Police’s office, he figures prison will be his next stop but instead finds himself being sent into a situation that can be far worse for him. Tat has taken the mayor’s daughter, Lauren, hostage, and if Burnett can get her out, it will help his situation enormously. The problem is, Tat has the girl on the top floor of a nearly impenetrable 15-story building, and the only way out is to defeat Tat and all his people, including his most obstreperous mother, and bring Lauren all the way down.
There is an old saying in fiction writing that a writer needs to have tension on every page, and author Eric Beetner has clearly learned that lesson well. Readers will find themselves having to schedule breaks to get a good breath. Some of the situations are a little far-fetched, but the writing is crisp, the descriptions excellent, and the story and characters compelling. If you like action thrillers and don’t mind gore, this is a good pick.
