Becoming Belle

We rated this book:

It’s Victorian England in 1887, a time when women knew their place within their social class. And one rarely ventured from that place, for if they did, they would have to face the consequences. In the midst of all this is Isabel Bilton. Isabel the oldest of three daughters of a military family and has a talent for the theater and an urge for adventure and excitement. Isabel, shortly after her nineteenth birthday, ventures out on her own. She changes her name and becomes Belle, liking the way the name sounded. A woman ahead of her time and possibly one of them who paved the way for many others, she’s named “the peasant countess” by the press. She has not only talent but she possesses a charm that wins her fans from all walks of life. She falls in love with a viscount, and her marriage to him was her dream come true, even though his family was not in favor of the union.
Ms O’Connor has given the reader a story that captures the determination of this young woman and her determination to rise above it all.
