Ben Franklin’s in My Bathroom!

We rated this book:

Ten-year-old Nolan and his seven-year-old sister, Olive, are doing their best to help their mother out now that she’s divorced. One day, while Nolan is keeping Olive entertained while their mom works upstairs, a bizarre package is delivered for Nolan. As the kids try to figure out what it is and how it works, they end up bringing Benjamin Franklin into the present! Hilarious mischief ensues as Olive eagerly decides to show Ben around the modern world, and Nolan tags along to keep things from getting out of hand.

This humorous book is fast-paced and funny. It even includes scenes that are dramatized in graphic-novel format. Ben is an eccentric character with a never-ending enthusiasm for learning. His curiosity, coupled with Olive’s youthful energy, make for a perfect storm of shenanigans. The real charm of this book is that it carefully weaves in historical facts about Ben Franklin’s life, inventions, experiments, and family. A bibliography of books and websites is presented by Nolan, with added information about what is particularly fun about the websites. The ending of the book sets up a new adventure with another historical figure. This is a fantastic new series that blends high-interest storytelling with educational facts.
