Brief Cases
It’s been quite a while since Skin Game, the 15th book in the Dresden Files series, came out. Since 2014, to be exact. Though according to the latest news, the 16th book, Peace Talks, may be coming out this fall. In the meantime, there’s a new short story collection, Brief Cases, for fans to enjoy. And in many ways, it’s just as good as the previous anthology, Side Jobs. The book collects twelve stories, eleven of which have appeared in previous anthologies, and one new, original story.
Brief Cases features all three Bigfoot stories that Butcher wrote after he realized he’d never made room for the renowned cryptid in his urban fantasy world. White Council Anastasia Luccio gets her own story set in the Wild West with a certain Wyatt Earp. Molly Carpenter, who Butcher feels hasn’t gotten enough page time, gets a couple stories. Butters even gets to tell his own tale as a Knight of the Cross. The final story, which is more a novella, is original to the collection and features three very different characters telling the same story from their own very unique perspectives.
Fans will be simply overjoyed with Brief Cases as some old characters they haven’t seen in a while come to light, some great back story is revealed across the complex Dresden world, and, for those looking to get a feel for what the Dresden Files might be like, you could give Brief Cases a try.
