Cataclysm: The War on the Eastern Front, 1941-45

We rated this book:

World War II featured massive battles and defining turning points, and none more so than on the Eastern front. It can be argued that without Germany being bogged down in Russia, and the Russians slowly fighting back, the United States and Great Britain would have had a much tougher time invading mainland Europe, with no guarantee of success. But with Germany committing so many people and material, it allowed the Allies to invade Europe and win the war. This book looks at the battles and major offensives of the Eastern front. It starts from the beginning with the German invasion of Russia and culminates with the German surrender in 1945. This is more of a true military history book, as it does not really go into an analysis of the major players and the overall decisions being made. Instead, it goes into great detail about individual battles, looking at all the different formations, companies, battalions, etc that made up each army. So if you want detailed information about each battle and who fought using what kind of equipment and which soldiers, this is the book for you.
