Condomnauts
It is not that often that we get translated science fiction novels here in America. It is as if other countries do not have any science fiction at all. So that is why we get this rare treat from Yoss, a giant in the Cuban science-fiction realm. First off, this book will not be for everyone, and even among lovers of science fiction it is not for everyone. The concepts will be high, the pace will be methodical, and there will be no space battles. Instead, what we get is a throwback to what is now considered classic science fiction, examining the ills of today through the prism of tomorrow. We follow Josue Valdes, a young orphan who escaped war-ravaged Cuba to become a Condomnaut, or a Contact Specialist. These Contact Specialists use the art of love-making to make contact with new species in the galaxy, to spread commerce and technology. One day, a species is discovered from another galaxy, and it is up to Josue to use all his seduction and love-making skills to make first contact. This is most definitely a book for adults–there are many adults themes and actions.
