Dead Man Running
A vacationing couple has a birds-eye view of gruesome acts taking place in their home while they are gone. Police are called to find a female victim who has been murdered and violated. A senior FBI agent believes the victim is the latest in a string of serial killings. The killer is soon caught and is identified as Martin Livermore. Livermore offers little information except knowledge of a missing woman’s whereabouts, which he will only divulge if he gets to speak to Alex McKnight. The FBI and police are dumbfounded, but not as much as McKnight. Alex is working as a skip tracer in Michigan, mostly to keep busy in his post-law-enforcement life. McKnight is reluctant to help but does so to aid the missing woman. Things soon go askew when an ambush takes out the officers accompanying Livermore to the hiding site. Soon, Livermore is pursuing Alex, while Alex tries to find out their connection. The confrontation between the two will be nothing shy of explosive.
Dead Man Running is a pulse-pounding, nail-biting read from start to finish. Steve Hamilton’s latest McKnight tale spares no time in throttling the reader with scares and action. The tension between McKnight and Livermore is palpable throughout, and the pursuit of the truth and the killer will leave the reader in a sweat. A well-done thriller!
