DJStories: the Best of David J. Schow

We rated this book:

There are creepy stories, and there are unsettling stories, and then there are stories that burrow deep into your brain, make a little nest there, and continue to creep you out long after you’ve turned the last page.

And David J. Schow’s stories definitely reside in that third category. From the evil that men do to supernatural terrors lurking in the dark to the suffocating horror of the unknown, the tales collected in DJStories mark an impressive cavalcade of chills and nightmare fuel to entertain, engage, and unnerve the reader.

There are innocent victims and horrific monsters alike in these pages, and the heroes, such as they are, rarely triumph. There are some moments of humor — one particular story about a classic Hollywood monster on a comeback tour comes to mind — but they’re few and far between, as Schow is content to let the villains run the show.

DJStories is a gauntlet of horrors, featuring many of Schow’s personal favorite stories, and any horror fan is guaranteed to find a few new favorites of their own between the covers of this massive collection.
