Eat Cake. Be Brave.
Eat Cake. Be Brave. is Melissa Radke’s candid and humorous examination of her life. I didn’t know who Radke was prior to reading her book, but I can see why her Youtube videos have garnered so many views. Through her writing, you can tell Radke has a larger-than-life personality and at times, she sounds super dramatic and opinionated. Radke writes with a lot of humor and ease, like you are chatting with an old dear friend. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what the book was about when I read the title and looked at the cover. Because I thought the book would be centered around cake, I was surprised to read some of her very personal struggles with depression, her husband’s emotional affair with her then BFF, and her loss of a newborn baby shortly after birth. I have read a number of memoirs and autobiographies, but I didn’t find her story particularly memorable. At times I thought her ranting of mundane things distracted from her story. Overall, the book was a quick and easy read though.
