Eat This, My Friend : Everyday Vegetarian Recipes for Sharing

When you first open the pages of Eat This, My Friend you are not impressed because of the unfortunate choice of rather non-professional font. Once you start reading this vegetarian cookbook and testing recipes, you change your mind quickly. Jade O’Donahoo produced a wonderful cookbook filled with good recipes she collected and tested during her fifteen years of cooking. Most of them are original and not particularly hard to prepare, using mostly easily available ingredients (though you need a good source for vegetarian ingredients). O’Donahoo gives four preparations (like mayonnaise, broccoli pesto) that are used in many recipes, adding extra preparation times. Beginner vegetarian cooks should be able to reproduce most recipes. This is a British cookbook but O’Donahoo adds U.S. measurements for the convenience of American cooks. Recipe instructions are very good and so are the informative head notes. Sometimes British terminology is confusing (like labnex for Greek yogurt) but not enough to slow you down. Recipe layout is very nice. What is also delightful is O’Donahoo’s illustrations—she is an accomplished artist and photographer. The many cute drawings and photos are a pleasant departure from the stiff professional photos in most new cookbooks.
