Elmer’s Walk

We rated this book:

The world famous illustrator of this book has at least a dozen titles to his name, probably more since he is known to have used a pseudonym. Many of the titles feature Elmer the elephant. Elmer is very colorful like a patchwork quilt. His like-minded cousin is colorful also, but the other elephants are quite plain. In this book, Elmer takes time to observe nature and beckons the other elephants and animals to join in, but they are much too busy getting on with what they have to do. The illustrations are quite beautiful as Elmer takes time to smell flowers, observe natural sculptures, listen to a waterfall, and be delighted by a spider’s wonderful web. But at his cousin’s awe, Elmer becomes somewhat more practical. It turns out that there is not all the time in the world for everything. This is a beautiful book for a young child, probably at the first grade level.
