Every Body Yoga: Let Go of Fear, Get On the Mat, Love Your Body.
We have dozens and scores of yoga books on the market, virtually all featuring young wafer-thin white women in fashionable yoga outfits. Jessamyn Stanley’s book on yoga is refreshingly different, featuring herself in numerous poses, yet she claims to be fat and is African American. This is a good book on yoga with nice photos of the many poses and sequences. But the book Every Body Yoga is not without fault. She writes too much about herself, her family, her lifestyle, and her yoga experience. The introduction before the practical aspect is also very lengthy, and many readers are likely to skip much of this. And many readers will likely object to her frequent use of gratuitous profanity, her rather coarse language. Stanley’s writing is not captivating, her style is not pleasant to read. She includes many tiny photos, and for their captions and also for subscripts, she uses a difficult-to-read script and tiny, barely readable font. Frequent use of block capital words is disrupting. Many Q&A’s help to answer some questions and doubts you may have about yoga. Though some poses are demonstrated by a man, this book’s target readers are young women.
