Final Strike: A Sean Falcone Novel
Former National Security Advisor Sean Falcone returns in William S. Cohen’s third entry in the series, Final Strike. This time, the setting is Russia, where president Boris Lebed, a successor to Vladimir Putin, has a diabolical plan. American billionaire Robert Hamilton, who made a name for himself mining asteroids, is in Russia doing business with oligarch Kuri Basayev. When Basayev is assassinated, Russian security services kidnap Hamilton from his hotel room and deliver him to President Lebed. Lebed wants Hamilton to work for him to turn an asteroid that is hurtling toward Earth into a powerful weapon that would destroy the United States. Hamilton, being a patriot, refuses. When the US government learns of Hamilton’s predicament, it sends former National Security Advisor Sean Falcone, the protagonist of the book, to pull Hamilton out of Lebed’s grips and prevent the asteroid from hitting Earth.
Cohen, who served as Secretary of Defense under President Bill Clinton, continues to deliver in this high-quality thriller replete with high-stakes action and suspense. Characters in the book are quite developed as well. I also liked the fact that the villains were quite multidimensional.
All in all, Final Strike is not a bad thriller, even though some of the plot may hardly be believable. Nevertheless, if you enjoy lots of action, by all means, read the book.
