Martin Reese can’t complain much about his life. After selling the company he created when computers and coding were a novelty, now he and his wife and daughter can live without financial worry. Luckily for Martin and his illicit hobby, he isn’t one of those very well known tech people.

During high school, Martin enjoyed stalking some girls, and, unknown to his wife, had been arrested for breaking into their homes and stealing some souvenirs. Now his hobby has evolved to discovering unfound burials of serial-killer victims and then anonymously but in a very provocative way reporting that to police, where detective Sandra Whittal is in charge of investigating them.

Everything in Martin’s life changes when his activities attract attention from unwelcome source – a serial killer’s partner (he calls himself “The Ragman”), who has successfully escaped justice. Neither Martin’s family nor his cherished secrets are safe, and his character is forced to improvise and grow in the face of the Ragman’s challenge.

Detective Sandra is a true professional, and despite that, almost everyone would see Martin as a victim, at least during their first meeting. But Sandra’s instinct from the very beginning senses that something isn’t right with his behavior.
You could partially agree when the book’s description compares Martin to Dexter in the way that he’s an anti-hero who you don’t want to fail or be captured but not in the way he’s out there seeking justice for victims. A very nice duel with a hardened killer!
