Fred & the Lumberjack
Fred has been busy building his perfect dream den. There are a lot of decisions to be made in the process of building a den. He builds it just the way he wants it, but something seems to be missing. He thinks about many things — what kind of beds, how many video games, which books. But Fred simply can’t figure out what is missing when he hears a very loud noise in the forest. When he goes to find out what is making the noise, he finds a lumberjack. She’s very cute, and Fred gets tongue-tied. He decides to show her what a clever, hardworking lumberjack he is, but in the process he drops a tree on her cabin. Uh-oh. Too bad he didn’t just say hello.
This is a very cute story that will have youngsters thinking about how friendships can be formed even with the unlikeliest of people, even after things have gone terribly wrong. Author/illustrator Steven Weinberg has a fun sense of humor that permeates his book and will keep kids engaged. The illustrations have a sweet, cartoonish look to them that will elicit lots of laughter.
