Frontier Follies: Adventures in Marriage and Motherhood in the Middle of Nowhere

Ree Drummond sure can cook, and she sure can write, too! The Pioneer Woman is as charming as ever in Frontier Follies, a collection of stories about her life, love, and family on the ranch. Ree’s wit is a delight to read — I chuckled out loud several times, much to everyone around me’s chagrin — and at times she’s so darn relatable that it’s hard to remember that she’s a celebrity. One of my favorite stories included a pit stop on a road trip that turned into a devastating tragedy over an apple fritter, but each story had something funny or heartwarming to share. Sometimes Ree’s stories feel more like snippets pulled from here and there rather than a cohesive story, and sometimes that left me wanting more. But that speaks more to how engrossing her stories are than the quality of the tale — Frontier Follies is still a fun and light read with just a touch of depth to leave you happy and fulfilled, just like one of Ree’s classic dinner dishes.
