In Gone Without A Trace, Hannah comes home from a conference to find that her boyfriend, Matt, is gone. Everything he owns is gone, and more than that, all of her stuff is put back just like it was before he moved in. All photos of him have been removed as well as text messages and phone numbers. He is completely gone, and Hannah has no idea why. She begins to slip up at work since she isn’t getting any sleep and has become obsessed with finding him. Everyone around her is telling her to let go and move on, but things keep moving around in the house, and she keeps getting phone calls making her think he wants to come back. Hannah knows she must find him, even if just to ask why.

I loved this book. You feel for Hannah as she’s going through this. Then you begin to discover that Hannah is a bit of an unreliable narrator, and maybe things aren’t quite what they seem. The author did an amazing job getting your mind working and trying to solve the puzzle and figure out what’s really going on. It’s one of the few times I’ve read a book labelled suspense and it did not fail to deliver. I thought the ending was great as it was different than most. What a great way to turn the tables and surprise us readers. This story was such a great example of how we often lie to ourselves to explain why things happen or why we treat people the way we do. It’s also a great example of how, by doing that, we often set ourselves up for failure or even end up digging our own grave. If you are the kind of person who reads suspense and tries to figure it out before the end, I think you will enjoy this book, and hopefully the ending will be a surprise.
