How the Dukes Stole Christmas: A Christmas Romance Anthology
This collection contains four short stories written by Tessa Dare, Sarah MacLean, Sophie Jordan, and Joanna Shupe. Each has a shared theme of romance with a duke during Christmastime, and each story involves shortbread cookies. In fact, there’s an old family recipe for shortbread at the end of the book, courtesy of author Sarah MacLean.
The stories were light and fun for some easy holiday reading. Some stories were more entertaining than others. My favorite was the last story, “Christmas in Central Park” by Joanna Shupe. She did a fun twist on the duke theme. Her heroine is an advice columnist keeping her fair share of secrets.
“Meet Me in Mayfair” by Tessa Dare, had some traces of Pride and Prejudice to it: it’s the story of a marriageable young woman whose family has fallen on hard times. Their only hope is for her to make a good match.
“The Duke of Christmas Present” by Sarah MacLean is a twist on the familiar “A Christmas Carol.” A workaholic man regrets his lost love until he unexpectedly finds himself with a second chance.
“Heiress Alone” by Sophie Jordan is a romance take on the “Home Alone” movie. Annis is left behind by her family at their grand home in the Scottish highlands. Bad weather prevents them from coming back. With thieves in the area, it’s up to a neighboring duke to keep her safe.
The stories were entertaining. If romance and dukes are your thing, you’re sure to enjoy this holiday collection.
