Reagan Summerside is quick to accept Walker Boone’s proposal, but their celebration is cut short when Reagan sees a body in her neighbors’ pink Caddy. When it disappears and shows up in her neighbors’ yard, it seems someone is trying to frame sisters Annie and Elsie for the murder. As professional mourners included in the retirement package at Shady Pines Retirement Center, the sisters are also the first suspects in the suspicious death of Willie Fishbine. Reagan doesn’t believe they did it and sets out to prove their innocence. When she and her Aunt KiKi are blackmailed by Willie’s grandson, they have three days to find the killer or he’ll ruin their reputations.

Reagan’s family is her cohort or co-instigator in every one of her eccentric capers, from stealing a Snickers bar from a dead man’s pocket to breaking into a funeral home to hiding in a casket. Reagan’s life balances between planning a wedding and solving murders, blending romantic comedy with sleuthing fun. The relationship between Boone and Reagan is heartwarming and delightful to watch as they begin to build their future together while dealing with ordinary things like household renovations. Lethal in Old Lace is a charming and witty mystery with a surprising twist and characters that keep things interesting.
