Light of Impossible Stars: An Embers of War Novel
Light of Impossible Stars: An Embers of War Novel begins with a rush of quick action and a clever game of chess before speeding the reader along a series of fast-paced and highly detailed first chapters. Right from the start, you are struck by the level of planning with which Powell has constructed this engaging space opera.
It should be noted that this is the third book in Powell’s The Embers of War trilogy. While it may be a bit difficult for readers unfamiliar with some of the continuing story lines, its quality does encourage both multiple readings and to read the story from the first book forward. Perhaps the highest praise that can be bestowed on this book is that, besides the inherent episodic issues of any sequel, it does work as a book in its own right.
Having read the first two books, this reviewer can attest that this final chapter of the trilogy unfolds with graceful order. Clearly, Powell crafts an overall narrative of this series with no hint of fat on these literary bones. You feel the drama, and the characters are perfect windows into the world presented to the reader. It is a revelation to the genre and a fine example of the exciting new era of fiction we are currently enjoying. If you are looking for a fast-paced, action-packed read, this should be at the top of your queue. It is an addictive and engaging read from cover to cover.
