Luna: Moon Rising

The last book in Ian McDonald’s Luna trilogy, /Luna: Moon Rising continues right where the second book left off. Like the two before it, this book is set on the moon one hundred years in the future. The Moon is controlled by five families, called Dragons, each with their own interests, which often intersect with those of their counterparts. The Corta family is perhaps the most powerful and the wealthiest one, and this book primarily focuses on this particular family. In Luna: Moon Rising the Corta family, headed by Luis Corta, is faced with numerous threats, including the rival MacKenzie family as well as two powerful corporations, each with their own designs and desires to control the Moon. And then there’s the bitter custody battle for Lucas’s 18-year old son, Lucasinho Corta, who had a terrible accident and is now in a vegetative state.

Luna: Moon Rising builds upon the events of the previous two books in the series; therefore, it is absolutely necessary to read both Luna: New Moon and Luna: Wolf Moon in order to understand the events. Granted, Ian McDonald is a masterful storyteller. The writing is an absolute joy to read. The plot is absolutely intense, and the reader feels like they are in the middle of it all. In addition, the character development and world building are absolutely top notch, and the author continues both aspects throughout the final book in the trilogy.
