Marriage Vacation
Kate is living in a huge home in the Upper East Side with her wildly successful husband, Karl, and their two young daughters, Tilly and Isabel. Kate loves to attend weddings with Karl. It always brings out the best in them and it’s romance overload. When Karl has pressing work obligations and is unable to attend their friend’s wedding in California, Kate goes solo and misses him every minute. At least until her long lost friend, Nina, books them both tickets to Thailand. Torn between the obligations of being a good wife and mother and taking a break to recharge, Kate has to face the question of who she is and who she wants to be for the next phase of her life.
Although this book is a spinoff of the TV show Younger, you don’t have to know the show to enjoy the book. The setting is exciting, the things Kate explores to add meaning to her life are interesting, and, although you need to suspend your disbelief frequently, it doesn’t fall prey to the lusty exploits of other female mid-life crisis books. This is a fast and enjoyable read for any woman who wants to redefine herself within marriage and mothering.
