Me and My Grandma!
Me and My Grandma is a beautifully illustrated tale of a young cub recounting his adventures with Grandma. Grandma spends entire days with her grand-cub. They fish, they picnic, they enjoy nature, and Grandma tells her grand-cub stories. The young cub loves spending time with Grandma and wishes their time together could last forever.
I recommend this book to parents and grandmas of children five and under. Alison Ritchie has created simple yet engaging rhyming sequences that are perfect for younger children. The book will build their knowledge of language and sound; it is one that they may even recite.
I love that Ritchie did not identify the cub’s gender—any child can identify with the cub. Older children may be able to infer about the cub’s gender for higher-order thinking skills. Children will also enjoy the bright illustrations; the animals are the best part—ducks, frogs, birds, bunnies, and an owl. And of course there are the two honorable mentions—mama bird feeding her babies a worm and the sun setting near the end. My only complaint—I wanted to see Grandma’s little cottage in its entirety.
