No Exit: A Novel
What if a college girl finds out her mother has aggressive cancer and the girl starts driving home through mountains and a blizzard hits, so she stops a rest stop? And what if she sees a child’s hand in a van’s window and sees a child in a cage? Four people are in the rest stop, and Darby Thorne needs to figure out who she can trust to help rescue the child. The snow keeps coming, the radio says help won’t come for eight hours, and there’s no cell signal, but that doesn’t matter since Darby has almost no battery left. And then, everything goes sideways.
Fasten your seat belt. It’s going to be a bumpy ride, and it’s going to last all night long. Author Taylor Adams has written a terrific page-turner of thriller that has more twists and turns and better red herrings than readers will find in most books. The story is complex and layered and so, so compelling. The writing is crisp with nary a wasted word. The point-of-view switches are a little jarring, but perhaps necessary. Except for one tiny authorial cheat at the end, this is a perfect thriller.
