Torrid extramarital affairs that culminate in death span generations in Jordan Gatehouse’s family. When he meets Abby, the woman remodeling his father’s late mistress’s home, Jordan develops a passionate attraction almost immediately. But the billionaire businessman is already seeing a high-powered federal government lawyer who will stop at nothing to destroy him if he tries to leave her.

Two-thirds of the way through Seducing Abby Rhodes, I was afraid the book had become self-aware. “This was some Jerry Springer shit unfolding right here in her living room,” Abby notices when Robin finds her and confronts her for the first time.

Seducing Abby Rhodes is part soapy melodrama and part ghost story, where one character’s history has a high likelihood of repeating itself. Three equally self-sufficient adults, Robin, Jordan, and Abby, become entangled in unexpected ways. A touch of the supernatural freshens up what would be a ridiculous love triangle otherwise.

I enjoyed reading Seducing Abby Rhodes, especially around Halloween. Abby could have used a little more agency for a woman who owned her own construction business. The story is unique, and I’ll look for more from J.D. Mason in the future.
