Sleeper
Sarah’s sleep disorder started when she was just ten years old. It requires that she be put in restraints every night before bed so she doesn’t act out her dreams and hurt herself or others. She’d been doing really well with therapy, so she joined friends for a sleepover, but in her dreams she almost killed Gigi, the typical mean girl. Sarah becomes a target for Gigi and others, who taunt her for her sleeptime habits. Sarah joins a research study, hoping to find a remedy, but instead finds a soulmate in Wes, who suffers from the same disorder, and an avenue for revenge emerges. However, when Wes goes too far, she must choose between loving him or living with herself.
Do not be deceived – this is a thriller of nightmare proportions. Sarah is able to jump into the dreamscapes of others with a drug that gives her powerful abilities. This alone would be worthy of thriller status, but the pressure that Wes exerts over Sarah and his ability to manipulate her make it terrifying. It is dark, and some things are left poorly explained, but it’s worth the read. While waiting for a possible sequel, try McMann’s Wake series.
