Stone Cold Heart: A Novel (Cat Kinsella)
DC Cat Kinsella is back in Stone Cold Heart. She’s still dealing with family dysfunction with her dad while also secretly dating Aiden, the brother of the murdered woman in Sweet Little Lies. Her new case involves a young woman who is found dead in her flat after a party at her boss’s house. The investigation turns toward Joseph Madden, who insists he was at home with his wife, but his wife insists he was not. Cat has to figure out which of them is lying and why. Meanwhile, she has “Uncle” Frank threatening to expose what she’s done unless she does him a favor. Her case will show her how far people are willing to go to get revenge and to cover for those they love; her life will show her how far she’s willing to go to protect the ones she loves as well as herself.
I love Cat Kinsella’s character, and I have thoroughly enjoyed both books featuring her. The plot keeps you guessing, dropping little breadcrumbs that you know are important, but aren’t quite sure how they fit together. Something I love about Caz Frear’s writing is that you can feel the characters being pushed to their limits, where you, as the reader, feel like you would probably make the same choices given the circumstances. This was a great second installment in the Cat Kinsella series. I recommend you read them both and get as sucked in as me.
