The Cranky Caterpillar
One day a little girl named Ezra hears a very sad tune coming from the piano in her house. It fills the room. She goes to investigate and finally looks inside the piano. And there she finds a caterpillar, a very gloomy caterpillar. The caterpillar tells Ezra he has been in the piano for a very, very long time and has walked thousands of miles inside the piano trying to find a happy tune but was never able to find one. He had played the sad song so long he couldn’t play anything else. Ezra tries many things to to help the caterpillar find a happy song, but nothing seems to work. Finally she invites some other instruments to come in. When they all begin to play together, something quite extraordinary happens.
Richard Graham both writes and illustrates this fun book. The story is very inventive, as is the main character Ezra. The imagination on display in this enchanting story will fuel the imagination of very young readers and listeners. This is the sort of story that youngsters will want to have read to them over and over.
