The Flowers of Vashnoi

We rated this book:

For fans of the Vorkosigan saga, a heartwarming denouement, not precluding continuation. Both intriguing and hopeful.||In the company of Ekaterin, the necessary understanding spouse of Miles, we explore the irradiated heritage of the Vorkosigans. Vashnoi left uninhabitable by Cetagandan atomic viciousness, is host to a hopeful trial.

The seemingly ambivalent butter bugs, in a new and glowing iteration, are being employed to actively chelate contaminated soil and plant matter. As their radiation throughput increases, so do their carapace-borne shine.

That glowing characteristic attracts unexpected attention.

Dialogue between Ekaterin and Enrique, the unique and exasperating Escobaran polymathic genius, is an intriguing route to perception.

Ekaterin’s musings on the care and tending of Miles and their current twins are frequently hilarious, particularly for those of us who have followed that diminutive fellow’s galactic adventures.||Rife with caring, forgiveness, perception, and feminine understanding, we have here a gentle elaboration of the complexities of Barrayaran history and culture. Moreover, we receive lessons in compassionate uses of power and wealth.

Not really a stand-alone work, because so much of it requires previous Barrayaran exposure, and Miles acquaintance, this is, for those of us so happily gifted, a wonderful read.
