The Friends We Keep
Well for goodness sakes! Have I ever met a Jane Green book that I didn’t absolutely fall in love with? Of course not! That’s why I was so excited to receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Written in chapters that tell of past and present, this book tells a story that flows so well you won’t be able to put it down. Evvie, Maggie, and Topher meet their freshman year at university. They become friends immediately and learn each other’s quirks and oddities over the years. Maggie likes the round Licorice Allsorts; Topher doesn’t like to be touched; Evvie dates men who turn out to be much like her abusive father. One day they meet bartender Ben (a senior) whom they all christen with the name Evil Ben because he never smiles. Maggie sees something in Ben and crushes on him badly. Fast forward to graduation and nothing really becomes of Maggie’s crush on Ben. The years go on and what ensues in the lives of these three friends includes powerful relationships, an unbelievable betrayal, and an inevitable tying together of their lives once again. This book will tug on your heartstrings and will leave you yearning to have strong bonds like the ones Evvie, Maggie, and Topher have. This is another wonderful read from Jane Green.
