The Good Life

We rated this book:

Marian Thurm’s The Good Life is a view into a troubled family and the coping mechanisms they employ when hard times and tragedy befall them. Well written and insightful, this book was hard to put down. With an ending I didn’t see coming and that didn’t wrap itself up into a happily-ever-after, it was a satisfactory and fitting conclusion to a novel that showed an upper-middle class family and their struggles.

Moving between the first blush of romance between a couple, the way they found themselves part of a family neither expected, and the troubled present they find themselves suddenly in, the characters felt real and raw, and the way they dealt with tragedy was perfectly unpredictable. If you like Gillian Flynn, you’ll enjoy this book, as Thurm has written a novel full of suspense and unflinching reality.
