The Lady Rogue

We rated this book:

Theodora wants to roam with her father, visiting strange places and far off lands in search of treasure. However, she is stuck reading about such places. Things change suddenly when her governess quits and Theo returns to find Huck in her bathroom, the same boy who left her heartbroken a year before, who never returned letters or sent word. Interrupted while trying to share her indignation at his sudden appearance, they have to flee from robbers who have discovered her connection to her father and his current search for a ring crafted and worn by Vlad the Impaler. Things simply go downhill from there.

This is a departure from Bennett’s usual stories – in this, she has combined her talents for blossoming romance with legends in history sprinkled with magic and evil. Theo is a strong heroine reminiscent of the The Mummy’s/ spunky librarian, Evelyn Carnahan played by Rachel Weisz – Theo is not afraid to follow leads and dig up dirt to find what she seeks. This is the perfect new read for those who mourn the end of Kerri Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper series. Sadly, it seems to be a stand-alone, so readers should enjoy it while it lasts.
