The Other Miss Bridgerton: A Bridgertons Prequel
Poppy Bridgerton wanders into a smugglers cave while visiting a friend on the Dorset Coast. When discovered, she’s kidnapped and brought aboard the privateer’s ship so she cannot reveal the cave’s location. She’s locked in the Captain’s room for the duration of their trip to Portugal, where Captain Andrew James Rokesby must secretly deliver documents for the British government.
Readers will enjoy Poppy and Andrew’s verbal sparring as their relationship grows, gasp when they’re kidnapped by Portuguese lowlifes, and hope that the lovers will be reunited against all odds, Poppy’s reputation intact.
I’m a long-time Julia Quinn fan and wanted to love this book. However, readers barely get a chance to know Poppy and her background before she’s kidnapped. There’s little chemistry between Poppy and James, not much happens in the story, and the characters are pretty one-dimensional. The plot is incredibly predictable. The Other Miss Brigerton is a fun, quick read but it doesn’t do justice to Quinn’s original Bridgerton series. This is definitely not Quinn’s best work.
