The Perfect Candidate
Cameron is torn. His mother, who passed away several years earlier, enjoyed the fast-paced life of Washington, DC, while his father is more about the leisurely suburban life. After having spent his childhood with his father, Cameron sees his chance to discover his mother’s world by earning an internship in DC with Congressman Billy Beck. Cameron finds friends in the busy office, including Ariel, who helps him maneuver the highs and lows of politics. When Ariel asks him for help with a project, he plans to check in with her the next day, but she winds up dead in a car accident. Then the FBI contacts him with whispers of another questionable death years before, both with ties to Beck’s office, and an offer too tempting to resist. Finding the truth about those deaths, however, may just lead to his own.
This is an urban mystery along the lines of Sheryl Scarborough’s Erin Blake series or Ally Carter’s Embassy Row series. This political thriller fits right in with our political landscape today, entwined with intrigue, controversy, and characters who fit in because they stand out. Though supposedly a stand-alone novel, the last chapter will make readers impatient for answers.
