The Perfect Girlfriend
Fail to plan, plan to fail This is Elizabeth’s mantra, and she will not be denied what she wants. Even though Nate broke it off with her six months ago, even though he set her up in an apartment far enough away and asked for space, Elizabeth just knows that he still loves her. She plans and schemes and occasionally breaks into his space to leave inconspicuous but thoughtful gifts. She even gets a job with the same airline in which he is a pilot, so it must be fate. And if it upsets his perfect but snooty sister at the same time, all the better. She was never that nice anyway.
Mix Fatal Attraction with Gone Girll and the result is The Perfect Girlfriend. The lengths to which Elizabeth will go – changing her name, her appearance, her job – is terrifyingly chilling but the gender reversal is refreshing. Elizabeth’s childhood backstory could explain her obsessive behaviors but seems more an afterthought to make a more complicated story, even though her love life is enough. A slow enjoyment rather than a fast read, some may question the abrupt ending that leaves much to be interpreted; best to read this one with a friend or three.
