The Spook in the Stacks: A Lighthouse Library Mystery
It’s Halloween and the library has a chance to get businessman Jay Ruddle’s collection of historical documents. When they host a ghostly lecture, Lucy finds Jay’s body with the rare books. Jay’s granddaughter Julia is most likely the one to inherit the collection, bringing the library against serious competition for it. Lucy’s friend Theodore is smitten with the young heiress, so when Julia gets accused of murder, Theodore begs Lucy to once again put on her sleuthing hat. With spooky happenings at the lighthouse, Lucy begins to uncover clues that could lead her right to the killer.
The Spook in the Stacks has a fun spooky quality to the mystery that’s perfect for Halloween with ties to ghost stories and uses “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” for inspiration. A ghostly mystery serves as a subplot as Anna starts to question if the library could actually be haunted. A love triangle is woven into the mystery as Theodore vies for Julia’s affection against the collection’s curator. The two men are constantly trying to one-up each other in order to catch her attention, with Julia firmly stuck between them. Along with the slight romantic-comedy quality, Anna’s relationship with Connor has her feeling conflicted, but they have several sweet moments together. He’s dealing with his reelection campaign for mayor as she’s trying to determine what her feelings are for him. Eva Gates delivers the perfect treat for Halloween and a delight for mystery lovers.
The Spook in the Stacks is the fourth book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series.
