The Strange – Myth of the Maker
Sci-fi and fantasy blend together in an epic adventure than spans realities in Myth of the Maker by Bruce R. Cordell.
After a failed attempt at an MMO, Carter Morrison attempts a new type of virtual reality simulation accidentally powered by a network of dark matter energy coursing just under our reality. That attempt awakens something hungry at the edges of the network, chomping at the bit to devour Earth. Carters winds up sacrificing himself and his friends to save Earth but at a great cost. Years later Kat Manners stumbles across a melting man with ties to Carter and the dark matter network. Carter, Kat, and a colorful cast of characters journey into the dark matter network in a last-ditch attempt to stop a planet-eating horror.
Myth of the Maker is a novel based in the world of “The Strange,” a tabletop RPG spanning dimensions. However, it is not necessary to know anything about the game before reading. This is one hell of an adventure. It effortlessly blends sci-fi and fantasy with incredible characters and snappy dialogue. The story throws a lot of unusual concepts and names at the reader, but stick with it and the reward is a tale of redemption, revenge, love, and loss. Hopefully this is the first of a new series because it is wonderfully written and fantastic for anyone looking to get lost in a fun adventure.
