The Superlative A. Lincoln: Poems About Our 16th President
Abraham Lincoln was, without a doubt, one of our greatest presidents. He also came to the presidency as no other man before him. He came from a poor family and was largely self-educated. Poet and author Eileen R. Meyer has written a collection of nineteen charming poems about Lincoln that tell many of the interesting facets of this great man. The poems appear in several forms, and the meters and rhymes are excellent. Lincoln had a great sense of humor, and these poems reflect his life while being lively and fun. Each poem is accompanied by a paragraph that explains things in greater detail as well as an illustration by Dave Szalay, which perfect complements the poem. The illustrations have plenty of details and the same sense of fun that the poems have. In addition, there is good back matter that will encourage youngsters to learn more about Lincoln through books and websites. This book is a terrific introduction to Lincoln, both the boy and the man, as well as a good introduction to many forms of poetry and how poetry can be used in an informational text. This is a real winner.
