The Widower’s Wife: A Thriller
In The Widower’s Wife, young Ana Bacon has fallen overboard while on a cruise with her husband, Tom. They had just taken out a very large insurance policy on her life, so the insurance company dispatches Ryan Monahan to investigate. He has to figure out whether she committed suicide, was murdered, or just the victim of an accident. Tom and Ana have a young daughter who would receive the payout, so there’s a lot riding on Ryan’s findings. The more he digs into their life, the more he discovers that some people are really good liars.
I thought Cate Holahan did a great job of weaving together a tale of how far desperate people will go, sometimes for different reasons and with different outcomes. Ana was by far my favorite character and I loved how each chapter alternated between Ryan’s current point of view and Ana’s in the days leading up to her disappearance.
I wanted to review this book because I read her previous novel Dark Turns and enjoyed it, so I thought I would probably like this one as well. I was not disappointed. I thought this one was even better. I can’t wait to read her next book.
