There Is No Planet B: A Handbook for the Make or Break Years
As reminded in There is no Planet B from Mike Berners-Lee, we really are in environmental trouble. Berners-Lee, a Professor at Lancaster University in the UK, as advertised, seeks to provide A Handbook for the Make or Break Years. If we cannot stop the world from heating by two degrees Celsius we are in store for more than we can reckon with. Despite Sea Level Rise predictions, adverse weather, flooding, melting ice caps…there is still hope that we can stop it a 1.5 C. It will take concerted actions to keep this from occurring. The good news is that we might be able to curtail some of the effects of Climate Change, but we need to make many adjustments. The environmental problems the planet faces are many with us having the know how to address some of the problems, but not necessarily the personal or political will to do so.
There is no Planet B could be a required book that we should all have to share. It has the potential to be the reference book that puts us all on the same page. Even if we disagree with some of this, the author has given his e-mail address for those who think the book needs to be adjusted or improved. This is a great reference and primer which covers a large number of subjects. Included are science, politics, economics, ecology, and commentary. We need to be more careful about what we consume for food and how we use energy. Political systems need to address these concerns. It is a bit directive, but such is needed. It is balanced, knowledgeable, wide-ranging, global, and idealistic.
