What Is Given from the Heart
An old tale with a new twist. Re-written in the voice of an African-American young boy whose father dies, he and his mother lose the farm and move. The mother always tries to find the good in every situation. One day in church, the congregation is asked to help a family with a young girl who lost everything in a fire. The boy wonders what he could possibly give a young girl, for they have nothing. He considers many things, but nothing seems right, until, when he is reading his favorite, his only, book, he thinks of making her a book. He’ll make a book about her. When he presents the book, From My Heart to Your Heart, to her, she is overwhelmed and so pleased to have a book about herself.
What is Given from the Heart is the kind of book you’ll want to snuggle up with and read, again and again, to get that good feeling. Every word is carefully crafted with the child’s humble, yet curious voice, and brings readers to a setting where life is a struggle. Illustrated with warm, loose colors of mixed media including acrylics and art pens, it depicts love exuding from the family, even in hard times. The book provides an inspiring read.
