When Life Gives You Lululemons
Emily Charlton, former assistant to Miranda Priestly, is trying to make it on her own as an image consultant. Too bad things aren’t going well for her, which is how she finds herself in the suburbs of Greenwich, Connecticut, helping a former model change her image. Katerina, married to Senator Hartwell, has been accused of driving under the influence while her stepson and his friends were in the car. Although she vehemently protests her innocence, the senator is unmoved and seeks to sideline his wife in an attempt to further his career. But Emily is determined to clear Katerina and re-brand her image in the process.
First Emily will have to overcome her dislike of the suburbs, an area full of stay-at-home moms, all wearing stretchy yoga gear, something Emily finds downright frightening. Even her friend Miriam has succumbed to the local lifestyle by piling on the pounds with mindless eating while tending her small children. But, if all goes well with Emily’s plan, all three women will survive and thrive, even in this less-than-perfect place.
Exploring friendships, relationships, and changing times makes this book is a great summer read and pure escapism. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a film version as well because I’m sure it would be just as entertaining as the original Devil Wears Prada.
