Whose House?

Since 1941, H.A. and Margret Rey’s fictional characters have been delighting children, beginning with that famous little monkey, Curious George. Whose House? carries the work of this talented couple to yet another generation of children, although no monkeys appear in this story. In the late 1990s, after the death of Margret Rey, an unpublished manuscript was discovered among the collection of Margret and H.A. Rey’s work. That book was Anybody at Home?, from which Whose House? is adapted.

Each page contains a surprise as young readers (and listeners who haven’t yet mastered reading) receive a clue and guess who lives in the house pictured on the page. To verify their answer, they open a flap with an illustration of the animal or object that occupies that house.

In the tradition of Curious George, the illustrations are bright and rely on primary colors that will attract and hold the attention of youngsters. The book is advertised as being targeted at four- to seven-year-olds, but there are probably three-year-olds who would enjoy it, too.
