Windy City Magic, Book 2 The Sweetest Kind of Fate
Crystal Cestari’s second novel, The Sweetest Kind of Fate, is a delectable sequel in her Windy City Magic series. In this follow-up to The Best Kind of Magic, Amber Sand once more finds herself in the middle of a mystery, this time involving her personal villain, siren classmate Ivy. And while she is trying to save Ivy’s sister from an unscrupulous witch (think The Little Mermaid, but scarier), Amber is also struggling with her own personal love life and how to have a relationship when her magical talent constantly reminds her that her partner belongs with someone else.
Thankfully, this sequel is just as much fun as the first installment in the series. Amber is a sarcastic and vulnerable main character who draws you in while dealing with some heavy questions about love and what you should do for and about it. Cestari manages to skirt around tired tropes and delivers a refreshing, honest, and realistic portrayal of teenage love and the impact young emotions have. I was also pleased to note that the matches in this book cover the whole spectrum of human relationships, not just your usual hetero relationships.
The Sweetest Kind of Fate is an engaging and delicious romp through the magical underbelly of Chicago, and I highly recommend picking up the series if you haven’t already.
