Wordplay
The key parts of speech are introduced to youngsters in the age range of four to eight in this joyfully rendered simplification of the basic noun, verb, adjective, adverb, and interjection. Not only do the words appear magical, the text is resplendently illustrated with vivid colors, and action figures explain the elements that make words matter. Verbs describe action, and the drawings show tots climbing, sliding, running, sulking, and actively engaging in all sorts of activities. What about nouns? They denote people, places, or things, like a scary dinosaur. Adjectives and adverbs my be a bit more mystifying, especially for the younger crew. However, interjections should be familiar talk for the enthusiast who yells “wow” or “great” or some other short exclamation. There is magic in words, and this story book will excite the reader with its dynamic story and colorful, radiantly colored pages and childish figures that run and jump. Both the author and illustrator are experienced at constructing creative children’s books.
