You Don’t Know Me
Noah meets Alice in Thailand, and immediately they hit it off. Their whirlwind romance can only last so long, as Noah has to return home to help take care of his family’s restaurant as well as be present for the inquest into the disappearance of Noah’s brother’s girlfriend twelve years ago. Noah has always thought his brother Tom killed her, but she was never found. Now Tom is back in town for the inquest, and Noah has to decide how much he will tell. Alice also returns home to care for her dying father, so they are able to continue their relationship. But everyone has secrets, and in the end, all they can really say to each other is “you don’t know me.”
I wouldn’t really agree with the label of thriller or suspense for this book, but it definitely was compelling. I found it to be a great character study. Noah and Alice, as well as the other characters, are such a great picture of how we all deal with our circumstances and difficulties differently. You can’t help but hope for their relationship to work out as you read this story. It felt like their process to overcome their secrets and pasts was really the focal point of the story and not the disappearance of Tom’s girlfriend. A story well worth your time.
